Newly-weds tell police that they fear for their lives

Two newlyweds approached Coimbatore rural police on Thursday, seeking protection for themselves, saying they feared a threat to their lives

Z. Kajamohideen (23), and G. Tharani (21), from Mettupalayam approached Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore rural, M. Sudhakar on Thursday. According to police, they fell in love and got married at Periyar Padipagam near Gandhipuram on July 6. The couple said that they were facing resistance from members of their respective families and communities.

Under such circumstances, they approached police, seeking protection, to ensure that they were not separated.

Mr. Sudhakar promised them protection and sent their petition to the All Women Police Station at Perur for further investigation.
