Men from Chennai drown in Aliyar dam

Two men, aged 22 and 25, drowned in Aliyar dam on Saturday afternoon. According to the Coimbatore Rural police the incident happened when V. Gowtham and S. Ramesh – both from Chennai – went to the river to have a bath. They drowned because they could not swim to get out of the water. The two had arrived in Coimbatore a few days ago and went with family members on a picnic to Aliyar. The police said that Gowtham had completed B. Tech last year and Ramesh was working in a private company. The police said that their bodies had been recovered and would be handed over to the family on Sunday after post mortem.

Youths arrested

Rathinapuri police arrested Shiju of Kozhikode and Nawaz of Idukki for their alleged involvement in flesh trade at a massage parlour in Lakshmipuram. The police said they rescued the girls there and had sent them to the government's home.

Dowry harassment

Twenty-year-old Anjali, a resident of Kuniamuthur, has lodged a complaint with the All Woman Police that her husband and in-laws were harassing her demanding dowry. She said that at the time of wedding, her husband Ashwin Kumar and his family demanded 250 sovereign and a car as dowry. Her parents had promised them that they would give the same once she completed her studies. The police have registered a case and are on the look out for Kumar and his family members.
