Meeting to be convened

June 12, 2018 09:00 pm | Updated 09:00 pm IST - Tirupur

The Sub-Collector (Tirupur revenue division) will hold a meeting of farmers, traders and officials of various departments to redress the grievances raised by farmers registered with Tirupur South Uzhavar Sandhai that wholesale dealers/vendors were involved in unethical trade near the Sandhai premises.

The instruction to convene the meeting was given by Collector K. S. Palanisamy after the farmers on Tuesday alleged that wholesale dealers/traders were selling vegetables just outside the Uzhavar Sandhai at discounted prices during the daily operational hours between 3.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m.

According to the farmers, such sales practices are a threat to the concept of Uzhavar Sandhai scheme which was aimed at helping the farmers to get maximum profits through direct sale of farm produce to consumers without involvement of any middlemen.
