From now on, a person walking into a government health institution and finding the doctor to be absent no longer have to feel helpless. For, the users of public health services can report delays and deficiencies in services through the 104 emergency health helpline launched recently by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. A Service Improvement Officer would contact the officer concerned and follow up the issue till it was resolved.

According to a press note, a total of 2,581 CUG mobile handsets had been issued to designated officers in the Health Department across the State.This included 78 cell phones in Coimbatore to officers such as Deputy Director of Public Health, the Joint Director (Medical Services), the Dean of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, the Medical Officers of all the 58 primary health centres in the district besides the Superintends of the nine Government Hospitals.

Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, Law, Courts and Prisons, S.P. Velumani, handed over the first cell phone to the District Collector Archana Patnaik on Saturday.
