As many as 302 beneficiaries have undergone treatment under the Chief Minister’s Extended Medical Insurance Scheme costing Rs. 2.75-crore, said Mr. C. Prakasam, Collector In charge, here on Wednesday.
Addressing the special mass contact programme held in Kuriyanapalli village near Veppanahalli in Krishnagiri district, Mr. Prakasam said that the mass contact programme was held in the village not as mere
ritual, but with the purpose of redressing the grievances of the rural masses.
District level officials from all the departments attended the programme and explained the welfare schemes to the people. They also explained how, when and whom to approach to avail these government schemes.
Besides the mass contact programme, Farmers Festival was also being held here along-side. A campaign van of the agriculture department was the attraction at the festival. Farmers were given Uzhavar Cards. Farmers should utilize the government schemes and should strive to create a second green revolution.
Due to the district administration’s special initiative, special camps for Old Age Pension were held all over the district. As a result of this, over 1500 to 2000 senior citizens were benefited in each taluk.
As many as 1200 beneficiaries in Hosur taluk and 1515 beneficiaries in Krishnagiri taluk were given OAP orders by the Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development, K.P. Munusamy.
Despite these measures, many people in rural areas do not know on how to avail the scheme. Such people should be helped by the people’s representatives. There are as many as 150 such beneficiaries in Kuriyanapalli village.
With a view to prevent corruption in issue of OAP, the government is taking measures to issue smart cards to the beneficiaries. The smart cards could be used only with the beneficiaries’ thump impression and photograph. The scheme will be introduced from June this year. The Business Correspondents appointed by the banks will visit the villages and service the senior citizens and the villagers to undertake banking activities without much difficulty.
97,408 identity Cards for the beneficiaries for the Chief Minister’s Extended Medical Insurance Scheme were issued in Krishnagiri taluk, 36,821 cards in Pochampalli and 68,895 cards were issued in Denkanikottai through ration shops. The district administration is taking steps to issue identity cards to other taluks in a phased manner, Mr. Prakasam added.
Earlier, Mr. Prakasam had distributed welfare assistance to 38 beneficiaries costing Rs. 24.82 lakhs. Mr. K. Ashok Kumar, Chairman, District Panchayat, Mr. R. Sathish, Revenue Divisional Officer and officials from various government departments participated. Ms. P. Manjula, Special Deputy Collector, Social Security Scheme welcomed the gathering. Mr. V. Mani, Tahsildhar, Krishnagiri proposed vote of thanks.
