Following observance of Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2, the Coimbatore Corporation has banned the slaughter and sale of animals.

A release from the Corporation Commissioner, T.K. Ponnusamy, says that all the Corporation-managed abattoirs will remain closed and so should shops selling meat, chicken and pork.

The meat shops in Thudiyalur market will also remain closed.

Anybody found violating the order will have to face serious legal action, which the Corporation will initiate, the Commissioner warns.
