June 27, 2012 11:05 am | Updated 11:05 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s rural district secretary V. Eswaran has petitioned State Environment Minister B.V. Ramanaa highlighting the problems relating to the Vellalore dump yard.

In the petition, Mr. Eswaran said that the Coimbatore Corporation had not given the attention required in maintaining the Vellalore dump yard, submitted the required documents to the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control, and the TNPCB had not pulled up the civic body for the same and it continued to use the dump yard much to the chagrin of the residents.

He had also said that the fire accidents were quite frequent in the dump yard, about which the TNPCB did not have any records. He asked the Minister to urge the Corporation to move the dump yard to an area that was far from human habitation.
