Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam State president and former MLA S. Duraisamy has said that the party will not forge alliance with DMK, AIADMK or Congress in future elections because of the ‘previous bad experiences'.

He told this to reporters here on Saturday while announcing the party's decision to support Left parties candidates in the 24 of the 60 wards in Tirupur Corporation where MDMK did not field any candidate. “We are contesting for the post of Mayor and had assigned candidates only in 36 of the 60 wards, where the party has a strong support base,” he said.

On the decision to support Left candidates, he said that the party thinks that Leftists were at present more close to the working class while both the DMK and AIADMK were by turns facing corruption charges. For the time being, the decision to support the Left was confined only in the case of polls to Tirupur Corporation, he added.

Mr. Duraisamy said the party's Mayoral candidate, R. Nagaraj, if elected, would give topmost priority to solve the traffic congestion, drinking water crisis and garbage menace in the city.

Steps would be taken to widen the ring roads as well as lay roads on both sides of the 12-km stretch of Noyyal from Mangalam to Mudalipalayam and to ease the traffic clogs experienced in the city during the peak hours.

Mr. Duraisamy reiterated that the party would try to remove the encroachments alongside the arterial roads, which is the main hindrance to smooth vehicular flow in Tirupur city.

“Even the official residences of Corporation Commissioner and the City Engineer are situated on encroached plots,” he alleged.
