Mayor S.M. Velusamy on Wednesday inaugurated a water supply scheme that will benefit residents of R.G. Nagar, Jai Nagar and Bharati Park. According to sources, the Corporation had installed a generator and laid a new pipeline as part of the scheme to supply Pilloor water to Sirvani water-fed areas.

The scheme was a part of the Corporation’s proposal to divert Pilloor water to Siruvani water-fed areas to overcome the water shortage.

The generator will power the motor at the Kannappan Nagar sump to pump water to the aforementioned areas during power cuts.

The sources said that the civic body would be able to pump around 12 million litres a day to the areas.

At the inauguration function of the water supply scheme, Commissioner G. Latha, Chairman, Central Zone, K.A. Adhinarayanan, Executive Engineer K. Sugumar and Councillors Venthamarai S. Balu, and M. Gunasekaran were present.
