Presents them with Rs. 5,000 each as cash prize
Mayor S.M. Velusamy on Saturday honoured Corporation school students who had secured ranks in the recently released Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination.
A release from the civic body said that S. Swathi of Anuperpalayam High School secured the first rank among Corporation school students by scoring 492 out of 500. K. Rumesh Kumar of Rathinapuri Corporation Higher Secondary School was a mark short of the first rank holder to bag the second spot. S. Bhavadharini of R.S. Puram Corporation Girls’ Higher Secondary School and K. Hemalatha of the Oppanakara Street Corporation Girls’ Higher Secondary School shared the third spot for 487 marks.
Mr. Velusamy appreciated the students, asked them to choose the right course and presented them with Rs. 5,000 each as cash prize. Deputy Commissioner S. Sivarasu was present at the function.
The pass percentage of the 27 schools, including the school for the differently abled, for the 2012-13 academic year stood at 89.78. This was more than last year’s 81.11 per cent. Of the schools, the Anuperpalayam High School, North Coimbatore Higher Secondary School, Puliakulam Girls’ High School and the special school for the differently abled had the distinction of having cent per cent pass percentage.
As many as 142 boys and girls scored more than 450 out of 500. Twelve students secured centum in Maths, 27 in Science, and as many in Social Science.
Mr. Velusamy also spoke about the efforts the Corporation had taken to improve quality of education in Corporation schools.
