Girls outscore boys in class XII examinations

The pass percentage in Coimbatore district in the Plus-Two Board examinations has improved marginally in 2013 compared with to the two preceding years.

Of the 36,070 candidates from 308 schools who took the examination, 33,527 or 92.95 per cent passed, compared to 91.46 in 2012 and 90.97 in 2011, according to the results announced by the Department of School Education on Thursday.

The first rank in district was shared by three students who scored 1,180: M. Hari Prasad of National Model Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Peelamedu; P.L. Alagammai of Avila Convent Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Velandipalayam, and M. Jeyashri of Jaycee Higher Secondary School, Edayarpalayam.

The second rank was shared by two students who scored 1,179: R. Sanjay Srinivasan of Vivekam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Press Colony, and C. Muthulakshmi of GKD Matriculation Higher Secondary School, P.N. Colony.

The third rank was shared by three students who scored 1,177: G. Aparna of S.B.O.A. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chokkampudur; S. Magesh of St. Mary’s Convent Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Annur, and E. Kirthiga of Vidya Vikaas Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sowripalayam.

In a trend that has been continuing for years together, girls outscored the boys in the examinations. While the pass percentage among boys was 90.28, girls recorded 94.97.
