Manager held for misappropriation of funds in Coimbatore

Sleuths from the District Crime Branch of the Coimbatore Rural Police have arrested an assistant manager of a company on the charge of misappropriation of funds. The police said that they found N. Rajamanickam, 32, of Chettipalayam guilty of siphoning off Rs. 19.64 lakh by fudging salary accounts. He had created entries of fictitious persons in the salary register, transferred salary to the accounts of those fictitious persons and then used the ATM card to withdraw the money.

He had created 24 such accounts, the police said and added that they had recovered 25 ATM cards, Rs. 84,000 and a car. They were in the process of recovering the money the accused had deposited in chit funds.

The police added that the company’s deputy manager Manimaran had lodged a complaint in this regard.

Two arrested

Police have arrested Abilash and Sanjeev Kumar on the charges of stealing two-wheelers. Abilash was a two-wheeler mechanic and Sanjeev was a taxi driver. They had stolen two-wheelers at R.S. Puram and D.B. Road.

Man held

R.S. Puram police have arrested Krishnan of Gudalur on the charge of attempting to waylay Bhuvan Chetri of Assam, a migrant worker, near a school on Shastri Road, Ramnagar. As Chetri raised an alarm, members of the public rushed to his help, overpowered Krishnan and handed him over to the police.

Student robbed

Six persons robbed a student of the Bharathiar University in Vadavalli on Tuesday night. The Police said that when Avinash, 21, an M.Sc. student, was in I.O.B. Colony, the six intercepted his two-wheeler, assaulted and robbed him of his motorcycle and mobile phone and fled the scene.

Killed in accident

Harish, a migrant from Kolkata who was working in a goldsmithy at Selvapuram, was killed in an accident on Tuesday night. According to the Traffic Investigation Wing Police, he lost control of his bicycle when a person attempted to cross the road, fell off the bicycle on to the road, sustained head injuries and died on the spot.

Woman robbed

Unidentified persons robbed Pollachi Venkatesa Colony resident Kalavathy, 55, of her gold chain weighing five sovereign when she was returning home on Tuesday night.
