A man stabbed his five-year-old son’s suspected assailant at Pothanur police station on Wednesday night.

Police said Vishnu (5), son of Ramesh and Geetha, went missing on Tuesday, when Geetha had gone to attend to Ramesh, who had been hospitalised. The child was later found unconscious near a canal. Passers-by took him to a hospital.

Pothanur police registered a case following a complaint from the child’s parents.

Following investigation, police picked up Yogesh (20), of Jharkhand for suspected abduction, attempted sexual abuse and attempted strangulation of the child.

Ramesh, who had returned home from hospital, went to the police station and got into conversation with the suspect.

Under the guise of offering him water, Ramesh whipped out a knife and stabbed Yogesh in the neck, hip and stomach in what appeared to be a revenge attack.

Police took custody of Ramesh. His son Vishnu is responding to treatment at a hospital and is recovering. The condition of Yogesh is said to be critical.
