Vadavalli police have arrested Sathishkumar, 23, of Tiruvarur on charges of murdering his friend, Vijayakumar, 23.

According to the police, Sathishkumar and his friends Vijaykumar and Ramkumar fought with one another near Navavur Pirivu on Maruthamalai Road. In a fit of fury, Sathishkumar pushed Vijayakumar in front of a bus that was proceeding from Gandhipuram to Maruthamalai.

Vijayakumar came under the wheels of the bus and died on the spot.

On seeing his friend dead, Sathishkumar turned his ire against the bus driver and broke the windshield.

On seeing the situation go out of control, the people there informed the Vadavalli Police, who rushed to the spot, took Sathishkumar into custody and then registered a case.

Two taken into custody

The Singanallur police have managed to take into custody two persons who the residents of Anna Nagar, Irugur, refused to release alleging that the police were not serious in acting against the accused.

According to sources, the residents, after an hour’s chase, had managed to nab the two persons who, they said, attempted to burgle a house in the area. On hearing the noise of their breaking open into a house, a resident raised an alarm, triggering a chase by the residents.

After nabbing the two, the residents had detained them. On information, when a night patrol team of the Coimbatore City Police rushed to the spot, the residents refused to release them complaining that in the past the police had let go a few persons who they had nabbed. They also said that the police were not serious in preventing crimes.

After some tough negotiations and promise from the police that they would register cases against the two, the residents relented and handed over the two to them, who, at the time of filing the report, were taking the accused to the Singanallur Police Station. Further details are awaited, including the identity of those in custody.

Temples burgled

Unidentified persons gained entry into the Selva Vinayagar Temple in Thirumurugan Nagar, broke open the ‘hundi’ and decamped with the devotees’ collection.

The burglars also broke open the door and ‘hundi’ of the Mariamman Temple in Peelamedu Pudur, took away the collection and also a lamp. Based on complaints, the Peelamedu Police have registered cases in this connection. Further investigations are on.
