Sleuths of the Cyber Crime Wing of the Coimbatore City Police nabbed a 21-year-old grocery shop employee on charges of making obscene calls to a college girl, who is his neighbour at Podanur Chettipalayam area. Following a complaint, City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan deputed special teams for tracking the accused.

It is learnt that the caller used to indulge in obscene conversation with the girl from various numbers and whenever the family members picked up the phone, used to resort to an abusive language.

When a call landed on the phone recently, the police tracked the caller and to their surprise found the call originating from the same cellular tower and special teams stumbled on the man identified as Kannan (21). It is learnt that the accused got the cell phone number when a door delivery order was placed and thereafter was in the practice of making frequent obscene calls.

Police have seized SIM cards from the accused.

Case against five

City Police have registered a case against five persons on charges of trying to abduct a couple. Police said that Raja, who used to visit his sister in Tirupur town, came into contact with a woman Rigana, who lost her husband. The two were planning to get married. When the two were in Coimbatore city waiting on the roadside, a five-member gang reportedly tried to abduct them.

Following information when police reached the scene, it is learnt that the gangsters made good their escape leaving the lovers behind. Police have registered a case of unlawful assembly, attempting to outrage the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation. Investigations are on.
