The police have arrested a 58-year-old man on charges of continuously attempting to sexually abuse his 15-year-old daughter.

The man who sells fruits on a push cart in Ukkadam area was in the habit of misbehaving with his younger daughter for the last six years, the police said.

With the help of her employer — she works for a goldsmith — , the girl approached the All Women Police Station on Monday and preferred a complaint against her father. The girl has completed Standard X.

On Monday too the man tried to misbehave with her, the complaint said. The police arrested the person under sections 376 (sexual abuse) read with 511 (attempts to commit offences liable for life-term imprisonment) and under section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act of 2012. The accused has been remanded in custody.
