A man, aged about 35 years, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in an abandoned building along the railway track near Brooke Bond Road in the city, on Friday. Investigation is on to ascertain the nature of death. Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan, Deputy Commissioners (DC) Pravesh Kumar (Law and Order) and R.V. Ramya Bharathi (Crime) visited the spot. Five special teams have been formed to crack the case and to trace the identity of the deceased. Mr. Viswanathan suspected that the man could have set himself ablaze or could have been set ablaze alive by someone else.

“An empty fuel can and Rs. 27 was found near the body. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts could find any clue,” Mr. Pravesh Kumar said. He said that there were no external injuries or signs of a murder.

The issue sparked tension as it was the same place where college student T. Arnold (21) was found dead two months ago. The student was found dead with a stab injury on his neck on August 19. After unsuccessful attempts by the city police in cracking the murder, two new teams were formed recently to investigate the case.

Meanwhile, the city police are trying to lock the building or take necessary efforts to raze it. Over the years it has been misused by antisocial elements during the late hours of the day. “Till then police patrolling will be stepped up and efforts are under way to bring that stretch of the road and railway track under video surveillance,” Mr. Pravesh Kumar said.
