S. Vadivel (30) of Nandhanar Colony on Palladam Road in Pollachi reportedly drowned in an attempt to save his friend D. Devakumar (28) of Selvapuram in Coimbatore from a well at T.Kottampatty village near Pollachi on Monday.
The police said that both were working in the farm house of Premkumar at T. Kottampatty. They went for a bath in the open well.
Devakumar could not climb out of the well. Vadivel dropped a rope into the well to help him.
But the rope fell. Vadivel jumped into the well to get the rope closer to Devakumar, but he got drowned. Hearing Devakumar’s cry for help the farm labourers rescued him. On Tuesday Vadivel’s body was taken out of the well.
