Man dies in elephant attack

A 65-year-old man, a resident of Bangladotti hamlet in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, died after he was attacked by an elephant on Tuesday.

Forest officials said Veeran, who was hard of hearing, was walking along a path leading to his hamlet when he was hit by an elephant. Veeran died of internal injuries while being taken to Sathyamangalam GH.

The department handed over Rs. 25,000 to the family of Veeran, and the remaining Rs. 2.75 lakh will be provided later, District Forest Officer of Hasanur Division C.H. Padma said.
