Man convicted for rape and murder

A Coimbatore court on Friday convicted a migrant worker for raping and murdering an 80-year-old woman and handed him life sentence.

The Special Court for Bomb Blast cases found Mohammad Sameer Khan guilty of raping and murdering Palaniammal (80 years at the time of the incident in June, 2016) at her residence on Gandhipuram First Street in the small hours of June 6 when she was sleeping .

Before leaving the place, Mohammad Sameer Khan Khan had also stolen her gold bangles weighing two sovereign.

Judge M. Gunasekaran handed down a life sentence for the murder charge, slapped ₹1,000 in fine and 30 years imprisonment for the rape charge, said public prosecutor S. Gopalakrishnan.

The Rathinapuri Police had registered a case in this connection and arrested Mohammad Sameer Khan a few days thereafter.
