Three persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure of a huge quantity of lottery tickets near Coonoor.

Superintendent of Police, the Nilgiris, Kapil Kumar C.Saratkar told The Hindu on Friday that late on Thursday night a highway patrol had intercepted a lorry at Kattery on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam highway.

A search revealed that it was transporting 195 bags containing 1.92 lakh lottery tickets worth Rs. 19.20 crore. They were in the name of the Government of Sikkim.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that they were from Hyderabad and heading towards Palakkad via Gudalur.

Since lottery tickets had been banned in Tamil Nadu, lorry owner Mohan of Gudalur, the driver and cleaner had been arrested. The vehicle and the lottery tickets had been seized.
