Lorry owners and poultry farmers have extended their support to the State-wide bandh on April 25 that has been called for showing solidarity to the farmers who are protesting in New Delhi demanding drought-relief fund, setting up of Cauvery Management Board among others.
Addressing media persons, State Lorry Owners’ Federation – Tamil Nadu (SLOF-TN) president M.R. Kumarasamy said that four lakh lorries would not be operated from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on that day.
He urged the Centre and the State Government to fulfil the demands of the protesting farmers.
Sella Rajamani, president of Tamil Nadu Sand Lorry Owners Federation, said that one lakh sand lorries would be participating in the bandh.
No loading and unloading activities would be done during the day.
Extending support to the bandh, Tamil Nadu Poultry Farmers Association president A.K.P. Chinraj said that when farmers were affected due to severe drought, poultry farming was seen as an alternative industry.
Hence, the poultry owners numbering more than 1,000 and people related to the industry would be participating in the bandh, he added.
