The mega lok adalat at the Sankagiri Sub Court here on Saturday resolved long-pending civil and motor compensation disputes and settled them to the tune of Rs 1.16 crore.
Presided over by Salem District Judge and Chairman of Salem District unit of Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority S. Baskaran on its premises, the adalat took up 110 pending motor vehicle compensation cases and 13 civil cases besides six other cases. The litigants were brought to the negotiating table and were asked to sort out the long-pending issues amicably.
While the claims of motor vehicle cases alone came to Rs. 82.11 lakh, the civic disputes ended up paying Rs 26.96 lakh to the aggrieved.
A total of Rs 1.16 crore in 97 cases was disbursed as compensation by various agencies and parties involved in these cases.
Mr. Baskaran said that lok adalat was beneficial to all and it used to reach out to people to settle their long pending disputes and rendering justice.
Sub Judge A. Mohammed Ziautheen, Block Legal Services Authority presided over the function in which T. K. Venkatesan, President, Sankagiri Advocates Association, R. Kulandaivel, President, Sankagiri Bar Association, P. Ramalingam, President, Sankagiri Law Association, G. Ramajeyam, District Sessions Judge, Sankagiri, Kumarasamy, Sub Judge and M. Ramasamy, DSP, Sankagiri and retired judges G. Venugopal and T. S. Palanisivagurunathan and others participated.
