Representatives of small industrial establishments and trade bodies on Monday petitioned the district administration stating that 2,000-odd workers and owners were facing hardships following the State Government banning the mining of rare earth in the southern districts of the State.

It was a question of their livelihood and it had been affected ever since the Government imposed the ban.

The owners were unable to disburse salaries and the Deepavali bonus.

The raw materials they had purchased had become unusable, products under production were remaining incomplete and their debts were growing by the day, they said.

In short, nearly one lakh people had been hit by the decision.

While they welcomed the Government’s decision to audit the rare earth mined in the two districts, they wanted the Government to audit by keeping the mining industries open.

By doing so, the State Government would help hundreds of families, the petitioners said.
