Life term in murder case

The third Additional District Judge Alamelu Natarajan on Wednesday convicted and sentenced S. Jayaprakash (24) to undergo life term in a case of murder.

According to the prosecution represented by Public Prosecutor Augustus, Jayaprakash of Navakkarai murdered his neighbour Vasantha Gokila (64), wife of Viswanathan, in a bid to rob her jewellery to meet the family expenses.

The accused used a knife to inflict injury and also strangulated her causing her death on March 3, 2012.

The court found him guilty of the charges and awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000 for trespass, life term and a fine of Rs 10,000 for murder and seven years for robbery.

The Judge said that the sentences would run concurrently.
