The CPI (M), and the CPI on Monday staged a protest in Gandhipuram condemning the “anti-people” policies of the Union and State Governments.

P. Sampath (CPI-M), and M. Arumugham (CPI) said that the BJP Government continued to pursue the very anti-people policies the Congress Government followed.

This was evident in the last 100 or so days the government had completed. There was widespread disappointment among the people as prices of essential commodities continued to be high. In the 100 days the people had witnessed rise in fuel price, train fare, and a cut in subsidy.

There was a need for the people to rally against the government, which pursued pro-capitalist agenda, and made life insecure for the minorities.

The State Government failed to prevent the loot of sand and mineral wealth in the State. The AIADMK Government had failed to prevent attack on Dalits, and protect women. It pursued anti-labour policies.

In Tirupur

The CPI(M), and the CPI observed a fast here on Monday to press their demands pertaining to the infrastructure needs of Tirupur knitwear cluster, and bring wrong economic policies of the Union Government to the notice of the authorities concerned.

K. Thangavel of CPI(M) asked the district administration to initiate steps to ensure drinking water supply in Tirupur industrial cluster at least on alternate days and improve the facilities as well as man power at the District Headquarters hospital.

The Left leaders criticised the tardy progress of many bridge works taken up in and around Tirupur city and criticised the authorities for abandoning the underpass project near the M.G.R. Statue in the city midway.

M. Subramanian, CPI district secretary, said that government should set up medical and engineering colleges in Tirupur district without delay.
