When the Students’ Chapter of Coimbatore Management Association decided to teach the importance of brands to management students, they thought it would be better if they learnt it on their own from the local leaders. Hence, six student teams from five member colleges of the association not only visited the workplaces of the brands, but also made a three-minute video of their experience.
Suguna Foods, CODISSIA, Sri Krishna Sweets, Ganga Hospital, Sree Annapoorna Sree Gowrishankar, and Roots Industries were the brands that the six teams learnt about.
They were from GRG School of Management Studies, RVS Faculty of Management, RVS Institute of Management Studies, Sree Saraswathi Thyagaraja College, Pollachi, and Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College.
K. Chitra, Convenor of the Students’ Chapter, said the brands were selected for their local roots and national / international presence.
Students were given only a week’s time so that they would put their best foot forward in the limited time available. A presentation of the video in the presence of the brand heads was organised here on Friday at the Sri Ramakrishna Kalyana Mandapam. The industry representatives witnessed the video presentations and also gave presentations of their own about the industry they belonged to.
Students who had worked on the video said that most of the information they learnt about the brands was based on online content.
This gave them insightful information about the history and beginnings, and ethos of the industries before they visited the venues to film the functioning.
Dignity of labour, diligence of the labourers, the traditional working set up in family-based firms, and many more kinds of learning were imbibed by the students.
The Association was happy with the response, and plans to include more brands for future exercises of such nature.
