S. Ramakrishnan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East) and V. Saravanan, Inspector of Police (Traffic), identified 75 road users who complied with the traffic rules at LIC Junction on Avanashi Road and presented them with Road Safety Champ and Best Road User Awards.

Around 5,000 road safety handbills were also distributed.

The event, part of ‘Add smiles on Coimbatore road’ programme, was jointly organised by Tamil Nadu Traffic Wardens Organisation, Coimbatore Unit, and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Down Town in association with The Hindu. S. Santhosh, charter president of the club, V. Vinod Kumar, charter secretary, S. Arivudai Nambi, project chairman, and S. Sevugan Kannan, community service director, were present.

Objective

The objective of the event was to ensure that organisations such as Rotary come forward to honour the law abiding motorists, who do so for the sake of their safety and not for the sake of rule or for the fear of enforcement or fine, said S. Santhosh.

The police are already carrying out drives to enforce the road rule and levy fine on violators.

On the other hand, Rotary thought that it would be befitting to honour those who comply with the rule.
