Coimbatore Railway Station and clock tower near Coimbatore Corporation office were lit in blue from Sunday evening amidst various awareness programmes in the city marking World Autism Day.
The decorations at the railway station were jointly done by the Aram Foundation, and the railways.
Kinathukadavu-based Sharanalayam – Third Eye, a learning centre for autism, organised an awareness programme on autism spectrum disorder titled ‘IgoBLUE for Autism’ at Brookfields Mall.
Awareness
“Such events are conducted as awareness on autism is lacking in society. Parents needs more awareness as identifying symptoms of autism in children before the age of two will help train them and sent to normal schools. Therapies such as applied behaviour analysis will help autistic students to overcome the symptoms to an extend when treated at early stage. Public events such as this will educate people and act towards social inclusion of autistic children,” said Saranya Regaraj, correspondent of Sharanalayam – Third Eye.
Children and elders dressed up in blue costume participated in the event at Brookfields Mall.
Steps Groups special school on Tiruchi Road, Ramanathapuram, on Sunday conducted ‘drama for autism’ workshop. Autism and therapeutic expert P. Ramamoorthy conducted the workshop which also had separate sessions for parents and children.
