The Ramanathapuram police in Coimbatore City have registered a case against 19 persons on the charge of land grab through criminal intimidation and falsification of documents.
Based on a complaint from M. Dhandayuthapani and based on the directions from the Judicial Magistrate VI, the police registered a case. According to the complainant, his brother and his father's brother connived with 17 others and usurped a 41-cent property on Nanjundapuram Road in Ramanathapuram area which, according to him, was worth several crores. For ensuring that they get the benefits from the property, the accused had resorted to criminal intimidation and falsification of records, the complainant added.
In accordance with the directive, the police registered a case against M. Manoharan and 18 others. One of the accused is said to be a district functionary of a political party.
The police have arrested John Victor (29) of Poonamalee, Chennai, on the charge of cheating the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation to a tune of Rs.2.79 lakh.
Police Commissioner Amaresh Pujari said that in 2010 the then TNEB gave an order to Srimathi Industries of Chennai to undertake maintenance of 10 transformers and also gave them 10 drums of oil (each containing 200 litres) for the purpose. The tie-up was made with John Victor of the firm. Later, it was found that there was no such company existing in Chennai. He was remanded to judicial custody.
