An eight-feet brass lamp weighing nearly 300 kg; coloured and plain glass candle holders, six feet brass lamps, ashtothiram lamp, and clay lamps are among the collections exhibited at Poompuhar for the lamp festival.

The exhibition-cum-sale is on till December 2 and six artisans have exhibited products.

R. Narendra Bose, manager of the outlet here, said Poompuhar is looking at sales of ₹20 lakh from the lamp festival.

The eight-feet lamp and six-feet lamps were made at the Government workshop at Nachiarkoil. There is an entire range of traditional lamps in different sizes and forms. Some are antique designs too. In the ashtothiram lamp, 108 wicks can be lit. Clay lamps are made by artisans in Coimbatore and by those from other districts too.

“We have already sold two six-feet lamps,” he said. Customers get 10 % to 20 % discount and those who want to donate huge lamps to temples prefer to buy during the exhibition, he said.

Apart from brass and clay lamps, there are glass candle holders, sourced from the North. These can be hung on trees, placed on tables, etc. “We want to see how the response is to these new products,” he said.
