KJK criticises absence of NOTA

September 14, 2014 12:18 pm | Updated 12:18 pm IST - COIMBATORE:

Kongunadu Jananayaka Katchi (KJK) has criticised the absence of ‘None of the Above’ (NOTA) option in the local body by-election. In a release, the party leader G.K. Nagaraj has said that the absence of the NOTA option will dissuade neutral voters from exercising their franchise in the election and pave way for unhealthy practises.

Rejecting candidates

The absence will also prevent voters from rejecting any of the candidates in the fray.

In the Parliamentary election, 17,428 voters in Coimbatore and 56,559 in Udhagamandalam had chosen NOTA, he said.

He added that providing the NOTA option for one election and removing for the very next did not go well with the voters.

It also raised suspicions over the neutrality of the State Election Commission.
