Former Union Minister and AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP S.R. Balasubramaniam said that Dravida Munetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi should stop confusing people with his false statements.

On a recent statement by Mr. Karunanidhi urging the State Government to release water from Mettur Dam on June 12, Mr. Balasubramaniam told presspersons here on Tuesday that having served as Chief Minister for more than 20 years and as Public Works Department Minister for two years the DMK leader should know it would not be possible this year.

It would not be possible as the monsoon has just set in and inflow of water into the dam is yet to pick up. He also pointed out that water was not released on the customary date for 56 times in the 83-year history of the dam. “It was released on time less than a handful of occasions during his (Karunanidhi’s) tenure as Chief Minister,” he added.

On the monsoon forecast by various agencies, he said the meteorology department should come out with more realistic forecasts. He said that the AIADMK was not against a proper probe into the transportation of Rs. 570 crore from State Bank of India that attracted lot of rumours.
