Promising overall infrastructure development and a holistic solution to the dyeing effluent discharge problem in Tirupur, DMK president M.Karunanidhi sought votes for the Tirupur North constituency candidate C. Govindasamy (DMK) and the Tirupur South constituency candidate K. Senthil Kumar (Congress).
Addressing electors at Perumanallur, en route to Erode for another campaign, on Thursday, he said that steps would be taken to provide three-phase power connection to small scale industries as well as for powerloom sector to augment production capabilities, if DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) was voted back to power.
Likewise, the much awaited Avinashi-Athikadavu scheme would be implemented expeditiously and a government hospital would be set up on the northern side of Tirupur.
On the education front, Mr Karunanidhi promised to set up a government arts college as well as a government girls' higher secondary school.
He said his government, in association with the Union government, would try to solve the problems pertaining to the safe disposal of effluents from dyeing units. The DMK leader also reiterated that the DPA candidates would always be fighting for economic prosperity of the people. Apart from the candidates, Mr. Govindasamy and Mr. Senthil Kumar, senior DMK leaders like Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan and Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam State president ‘Best' S. Ramasamy were present.
Police officials had a tough time at Perumanallur as people waiting in hundreds to see their leader broke the security cordon and got extremely close to car in which Mr. Karunanidhi was travelling.
