The Coimbatore unit of the Sri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena on Friday sought a ban on Hindi movie ‘Padmavati’.

At a press meet here, the organisation’s Ram Anuj Singh claimed the organisation had learnt that in ‘Padmavati’, scheduled for a nationwide release on December 1, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had twisted history and wrongly portrayed Rani Padmavati and that had hurt the sentiments of the royal family and Hindus.

The history was different from what the director had portrayed in the movie - that 16,000 women including Rani Padmavati had killed themselves to escape from Khilji, Mr. Singh claimed and wanted a ban on the movie.

The national president of the Sena Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was present.
