Kaliapuram Panchayat clerk booked under Women Harassment Act

The Coimbatore District Rural Police are on the lookout for P. Muthu Manickam (40) of Anaimalai for allegedly assaulting the head of a self help group.

According to the police, Muthu Manickam, a clerk in Kaliapuram panchayat office, had picked up a quarrel with S. Mahalakshmi (29) of Anaimalai on Wednesday in a dispute over the number of days she had worked under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Following this, Muthu Manickam had allegedly trespassed into her house and had threatened her. He had also assaulted her with the intention to outrage her modesty. She is undergoing treatment at a government hospital.

Based on her complaint, the Anaimalai Police have registered a case and invoked Sections 294 (b) (uttering obscene words in public place), 447 (Punishment for criminal trespass), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act. Further investigations are on.

Search on The police are on the lookout for G. Jinthan of Karamadai for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl from her residence on December 3. However, the girl had escaped. Based on a complaint by the girl’s mother, a case has been registered.
