The tenth edition of Coimbatore Vizha started on a grand note with the inaugural being marked by a joy ride for the visitors on a double-decker bus titled ‘Double Takkar’.

A city-wide trip covering the noteworthy locations is being organised by Young Indians. Commissioner of Police K. Periaiah and Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan launched the event at VOC Park. The vizha will be on till January 12.

“ We have brought the bus from Mumbai for the event. We are also organising an outdoor movie fest in the CODISSIA amphitheatre on a massive screen,” says S. Prashanna Krishna, Chair of Coimbatore Young Indians.

The red-coloured open-top bus depicting the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on its side will run till January 12 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The bus starts its one hour round trip from VOC Park till CODISSIA through Prozone Mall and returns via Ramanathapuram to VOC Park. The whole trip takes about one hour in total.

“We will only be going within the city limits,” said Ashwin, one of the event organisers from Young Indians.

When asked about the experience, Krishnakumar, a lorry driver and resident of Coimbatore says, “It was the first time I had ever seen and travelled on the second floor of a bus without roof.”

Another highlight of the event is a compilation of Big Foto Book with 34 pages, containing 120-plus photographs which range from rare wonderful collection of photos of various landmarks in the city.
