Intricately carved bangles, classy earrings and trendy as well as antique necklaces grab the visitors' attention at the Indian Artistic Jewellery Exhibition-cum-sale being held at Poompuhar on Big Bazaar Street here.
The exhibition organised by The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. was inaugurated by K. Karpagam, District Revenue Officer, on September 2.
The delicately done lac bangles adorned with Jardhoshi designs from Jaipur cost anywhere between Rs. 35 to Rs.1,000.
The handicrafts are made by village artisans and marketed through Poompuhar. Tribal handicrafts such as Banjara bangles and Toda jewellery, ranging from Rs. 200 to Rs. 1,500, are the other attractions.
Rudrakshmalas, Banalingam and Salagram shilas from Nepal are also on display.
Products from Karnataka and North-eastern States are also included.
Apart from bronze, wood, crystals and pearls, ornaments made out of corals and Panchaloha add to the variety. Navaratnamalas, spadikamalas, birthstones, kundan sets, bharatnatyam set and one-gram gold necklace set are sought out by the customers.
“I am a regular visitor at the exhibitions held at Poompuhar. This time they have put up a nice collection with a wide range of options,” said Rajam, a government employee.
“I liked the pearl and crystal jewellery. The variety available in bangles and necklaces has confused me,” said Mananmani M., another customer.
Apart form jewellery, wooden toys, Terracotta works, temple artworks, black metal and white metal works, paintings, stone, wooden and marble sculptures and other gift items are also on display.
The exhibition is on till September 13.
