Jama’at-e-Islami Hind in its People’s Manifesto 2014 has called for an amendment in Part III of the Constitution to ensure right to livelihood of all citizens by assuring complete security for food, housing, clothing, education and health care.
The manifesto was released at a function held in the city on Friday. The document calls for amending the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to ensure job on all 365 days. The manifesto also called for increasing the budgetary allocation on health and education.
Universities It also called for exclusive universities for minorities at 10 places in the country besides a separate medical college for women in Tamil Nadu.
Atomic power projects The Manifesto also called for reviewing atomic power projects and a ban on new projects anywhere in the State.
Urging for measures to curtail private medical colleges and hospitals, it also wanted to increase the number of State-run institutions.
The manifesto also called for thorough review of Communal Violence (Prevention, Control and Rehabilitation of Victims) bill proposed by National Advisory Council. All legislations relating to security should be amended to align them with International Covenant of Civil and Political rights.
It also called for independent judicial commission to probe incidents of terrorism besides implementation of National Police Commission to make the force more professional and humane. Seeking legal status and statutory powers for NHRC, Minorities Commission and Women’s Commission, the manifesto also sought amendment to the Constitution to make parliamentary nod must for any major international treaty or agreement and to re-orient the foreign policy of India.
