The Coimbatore leg will be held at the PSG Medical and the SNR Sons college grounds
After a roaring success in Chennai last year, Chennai Super Kings’ second innings of the Junior Super Kings inter-school T20 cricket championship has now moved to the districts.
The seven-week tournament, sponsored by Gulf Oil and supported by TNCA, will kick-start on August 27 and witness a participation of 160 schools from across the State. The Coimbatore leg will be held at the PSG Medical and the SNR Sons college grounds here.
It will be held in eight districts with Coimbatore, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram playing the first phase from August 27 to 31 followed by Tiruchi, Madurai, Salem, Villupuram and Tirunelveli from September 3 to 7. The Chennai phase will be held from September 18 to October 9.
The winners from the respective centres will play the second phase in Tirunelveli from December 27 to 30 and the top two finishers from the second phase and the runner-up of the Chennai phase will clash in the super league. It will be held in Chennai from January 6 to 9 next year and will identify and crown the Junior Super Kings of the championship.
“The idea is to provide a platform for young children to showcase their flair for the sport. We are extremely pleased to provide this platform for the district players. We will expand it further in the years to follow,” said B. Srinivasa Rao of the Organising Committee.
He thanked the Coimbatore District Cricket Association and its members for its support in organising the tournament here. “We need their support because they know the conditions better.”
