April 30, 2012 01:47 am | Updated 01:47 am IST - TAMBARAM:

A 21-year-old systems analyst committed suicide at her home in West Tambaram on Sunday. Tambaram police said A. Gayathri, who was from Chinnalampatti village in Salem district, was working with a software company on Rajiv Gandhi Salai. She was living with three other people, all employed in software companies, in a rented house on Jeeva Street, West Tambaram.

On Saturday, Gayathri spent the day with her roommates, who left the house on Sunday morning. Throughout Sunday, Gayathri's roommates and several of her colleagues tried calling on her mobile phone, but there was no response. They then called the mediator who had booked the room for her. The mediator alerted the landlord and both came to the room, looked through the window and saw Gayathri hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupattah.

As news spread, several of her colleagues arrived at the house in the evening. Tambaram police took the body to the Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet. As yet, police do not know what led Gayathri to commit suicide.
