The Coimbatore Medical College hospital has opened a 20-bed isolation ward to treat those having with fever and symptoms of Nipah virus attack.

The ward would be handled by a team headed by a senior physician round-the-clock. No cases of Nipah had been reported so far.

CMCH being a tertiary hospital, and Coimbatore was sharing borders with Northern Kerala, the hospital has established this ward as a matter of precaution, said B. Asokan, Dean of the hospital.

Those who had consumed fruits suspected to have been bitten by bats, those with symptoms of fever, nausea and respiratory problems, and those who either rear pigs or live near pen could be admitted here, he said.
