A one-year-old Indian Black Kite eagle rescued by the public was handed over to the Corporation Zoo where it was treated for the cut injury on its leg.

K. Asokan, Director of the zoo at VOC Park, said that owing to vanishing tree cover, lack of feed and increasing air pollution, the eagle population was dwindling.
The cut injury on the eagle’s left leg was probably because of the manja (glass powder-coated) thread used by people for flying kites. The injury should be at least one week old.
As it could not move around, the eagle had starved throughout.
At the zoo, it was given first aid, and meat was also provided.
Mr.Asokan said that the zoo at present had 20 eagles and at least six of them were treated for injuries.
