Initiatives to ensure free access at passport office

July 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The Regional Passport Office (RPO) has opened more avenues for communication, feedback, complaints and suggestions via social media and also provides walk-in facility for people having queries or complaints.

A release form the Passport Officer S. Sasikumar said that an exclusive e-seva centre functioning at the premises of the RPO provides online registration of passport applications and generates appointments between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to prevent the applicants being fleeced or exploited by unauthorised travel agents and touts.

Now, public can send feedbacks, complaints, queries through Whatsapp, Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook ID of the passport office is Rpocbe, twitter handle is @rpocbe and whatsapp chats could be send during working days at 94879-92991. But chats will only get a response and calls will not be entertained.

These are in addition to all the conventional grievance redressal mechanisms such as e-mail, fax, letters by post/courier, e-mail and so on. There is also an inquiry counter to redress grievances.

In addition, any applicant not being able to have their grievances redressed through any of these avenues could have a free access to meet the Regional Passport Officer at his chamber at the passport office on Corporation Shopping Complex on Avanashi Road from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on working days.
