The realisation of water into the River Cauvery at Mettur further increased on Sunday, raising the hopes of both the official machinery and the farming community.

The inflow into the Mettur Dam which stood at 12,573 cusecs on Saturday, rose to 16,614 cusecs on Sunday, due to release of more water in River Cauvery from the Krishnaraja Sagar and Kabini reservoirs in Karnataka following widespread rainfall in the catchment areas.

The water level in the dam too rose by about two feet in 24 hours. The level rose to 62.22 feet on Sunday from 60.43 feet against the dam’s full level of 120 feet. The storage level was 26.370 tmc.

Farmers are hopeful that realisation of adequate water in River Cauvery for a few more weeks will pave way for the release of water for commencing farm activities in the delta region.
