Unidentified persons on Wednesday hurled bottles containing inflammable material on AIADMK functionary S.R. Kumar’s scooter and car that he had parked in front of his house at LIC Colony in Selvapuram.
Mr. Kumar said that a neighbour noticed his scooter burning and alerted him.
He and his family doused the flames with water but the vehicle was partially gutted, said Mr. Kumar adding that he found broken pieces of a bottle near the scooter. He also found another bottle near the car that was next to the two-wheeler.
Alleging enmity with a few party colleagues as the reason for the attack, he said that one of his rivals entered his house a few days ago in inebriated condition and abused his wife.
He had lodged a complaint with the Selvapuram Police in this regard.
Based on a complaint from Mr. Kumar on the Wednesday’s incident, the Police have registered a case. He is a member of Amma Peravai.
