Indian black turtle rescued near Mettupalayam

Volunteers of Wildlife Wranglers rescued a freshwater turtle from a church near Mettupalayam and handed it over the Forest Department on Wednesday.

An Indian black turtle ( Melanochelys trijuga ) or Indian pond terrapin was rescued from St. Joseph’ s Church, Kattoor near Mettupalayam. The freshwater turtle was found on the premises of the church. The volunteers took the turtle to the Forest Range office, Mettupalayam, and handed it over to Ranger S. Selvaraj. The turtle was later released into a water body in a protected forest area by the Forest Department.
