July 09, 2013 10:10 am | Updated 10:10 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Kongu Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam has criticised political parties that attempt to portray Ilavarasan’s death as murder. In a release here, the party’s State general secretary G.K. Nagaraj has said that forensic expert Vallinayagam has certified that the death was indeed a suicide.

Mr. Vallinayagam had performed more than 12,000 post mortem examinations. Dalit organisations, Vidhuthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Left parties, Pudhiya Tamilagam leader K. Krishnasamy, and Dalit leader Sivakami have been trying to portray Ilavarasan’s death as murder. Such propaganda would disrupt social harmony, Mr. Nagaraj said.

He asked the State Government to increase the women’s eligibility age for marriage from 18 to 21 t o prevent violence that followed inter-case marriages and suicides. It should bring in suitable amendments so that men and women got married only with the express consent of their parents.

He said that the party was making the demand in the wake of developments connected with the marriage of Ilavarasan and Divya in Dharmapuri district.
