Impersonator held near Udhagamandalam

A youth posing as bank official and withdrawing money from ATM from others’ account, has been arrested.

Police said Sasikumar of Aruvangadu near Udhagamandalam in Nilgiris district came to a ATM Centre attached to Union Bank of India in Thudiyalur on Tuesday night and told a 19-year-old girl, who was getting read to withdraw money, that he had to check the machine.

Believing him to be a bank official, the girl gave her secret code number to Sasikumar, who withdrew Rs. 2,500 from her account, police said.

Sasikumar attempted to play the same trick on another person but he caught hold of him and informed a senior Bank official.

On interrogation, it was revealed that Sasikumar was playing this trick for the last couple of years and served jail term for these offences. He was released on bail, after being arrested on similar cheating cases in and around Udhagamandalam, police added.
