More than 1,200 students from 40 schools across Coimbatore were given an opportunity to bring out the spark in them at ‘Spark’, an inter-school competition held in Coimbatore on Saturday.
The second edition of the event was hosted by Sri Eshwar College of Engineering for students from Standards IX to XII. And, the team that walked away with the overall trophy was from Yuva Bharathi Public School, Coimbatore. The second prize went to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan from Thindal.
The event was to create awareness among school students on industry-expected skills and standards. Experts from the industry and academia addressed students and also conducted events.
Prizes worth Rs. 3.5 lakh were won. V.R. Manjunathan, Senior Manager, Global Resource Delivery, Savvysoft, judged Aditya Kiran of Yuva Bharathi as Mr. Professional, while Arthi from the same school was selected as Ms. Professional.
P. Kanagaraj, Chief Mentor of Free IAS Coaching Centre, addressed students in the ‘Social Spectrum’ event and urged them to join the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service or Indian Police Service.
G. Subramanian, Zone President of JCI, moderated the ‘Youth Parliament’. Sheilendra Bhansali, Vice-President of Coimbatore Quiz Circle, was the quiz master for the India Quiz.
There was also a ‘Young Orator’ event besides fun games for staff and students. A debate ‘Vivaadha Medai’, where students divided themselves into teams and argued over issues was held. It was moderated by S. Raja. Students put up a cultural show for all the participants. The Hindu was the media partner.
